The site collects information to show ads and count page views. It uses Google AdSense for advertising. Google's advertising code loads on every page. Google's systems choose and place the ads.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads. The ads are based on a reader's prior visits to this site or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Other advertising companies working with Google may also show ads. They may place and read cookies or use web beacons. A web beacon is a tiny image or piece of code that tells a server a page or ad was seen.

Each ad request carries the reader's IP address and the address of the page being read. The site cannot see what Google's advertising cookies record. A reader can turn off personalised ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/. They can turn off some other advertising companies' use of cookies for personalised ads at https://www.aboutads.info/choices/. Turning personalised ads off does not remove ads. It changes how ads are chosen. Blocking cookies in the browser stops these cookies. The site works the same without them. Google explains the cookies it uses for advertising at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

The site uses Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It helps see which pages are read and how readers arrive. It sets two first party cookies. The _ga cookie tells one browser apart from another. Another cookie whose name starts with _ga_ keeps track of the current visit. Google documents a default lifetime of two years for both.

Google Analytics records pages viewed, the page a reader came from, approximate location, device type, browser, operating system, screen size, language and interactions. Google states it does not log or store IP addresses. This event data is kept for 14 months. The site has not linked Google Analytics to Google AdSense or any other advertising product. Google signals is switched off. The analytics data is not used for advertising.

Google describes its own use of data from both Google AdSense and Google Analytics at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. A reader can block these cookies in their browser. They can also install Google's opt out add on from https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site works the same without them.

The publisher's own server counts page views. This process sets no cookie. It counts page views, referring sites, rough country and device type. That data stays on the publisher's server.

The site's own code sets no cookie. The cookies described above are set by Google's advertising and analytics code.

Email alert signups store an email address. They store which bank, credit union or broker it follows, a random token for email links and a confirmation status. A confirmation email is sent first. Signups not confirmed within 7 days are deleted. Every alert email contains an unsubscribe link. That link deletes the subscription at once. The emails go through Resend, an email delivery service. Addresses are only used to send the requested alerts.

Server logs record IP address, browser, requested page and time. They are kept for security and troubleshooting. These logs are deleted after 14 days.

The site is delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare carries every request to the server and protects the site.

There are no user accounts, no payments, no comments and no social media widgets. The site does not sell or rent personal data. It does not share server logs, page view counts, analytics data or alert email addresses with advertisers. What advertising companies receive is what Google's code collects directly from the reader's browser.

The site is written for adults and is not directed at children.

To ask about what is held for an email address, or to have it deleted, email [email protected].
